    Excuses, Excuses
I haven't been around much lately. I haven't been commenting or posting or doing much of anything but reading my old favorite comfort fic.

I should probably update on Jo Ann but that will just make me start frothing at the mouth with rage. The people at M.D. Anderson suck. Jo Ann would already be half way through treatment if she could get stem cell treatment from UAB. We'll just have to see if Jo Ann missed her window of opportunity because they dragged their feet so long that the treatment wont be effective, or if some miracle happens and Jo Ann pulls through.

My mother's health is deteriorating. My family has been discussing signing the papers to do not resuscitate. For the past few days, she hasn't recognized any of us, including my Dad. Then again, she might turn around and start getting better. I doubt it, though. She's been declining bit by bit by bit for months, and it's tearing us all up.

All of this is very depressing, which is why I don't update all that often any more. I'll try and do better, there are a lot of things happening in fandom right now that are fun and exciting-- I'm going to make more of an effort to pimp all the wonderful things going on.

The Sentinel-- Moonridge Auction and TS_Ficathons
The Moonridge Auction to benefit Moonridge Animal Park will start July 12th and run through July 19th. Things are going to be a little different this year, so check out [info]moonridge_2007 to find out more. As of 2007, The Sentinel and Garett Maggart fans have raised over $120,000 for the animal park, but more is needed. Moonridge is involved in wild animal rescue and rehabilitation, and they have been very welcoming to TS fans.

[info]carodee has opened her 2nd Annual Donate an Orgasm for Moonridge Challenge and this year it's Blair's turn! I really should have pimped this sooner because the deadline is June 15th. But! You can donate a drabble or a ficlet, or an icon-- yes, artwork too! Take a look at last years entries and see if that might inspire you.

The Master List for Cold Case Files Challenge is up at [info]ts_ficathons. Go read these wonderful TS stories and please remember to leave a comment.

    Up For Grabs
[info]atlantisbasics is up for grabs. Some fantastic canon based stories have come out of this challenge in the past two years and I hate to see the comm disappear.

I really enjoy AUs and SGA seems to inspire them. But one of the reasons I watch SGA, and continue to be a fan, is because I love the SGA universe. I love Atlantis. I love the Team going off-world and discovering new cultures and technologies. I love the characters as they are portrayed in canon. So I crave good canon based stories, especially now that a new season is going to air. I'd really like to see [info]atlantisbasics turn out another round that encompasses all the events of S4.

Is anyone interested in running this challenge? I have my hands full with [info]hardtime100 and the mini-challenges I've been running, not to mention [info]spook_me coming up in September. This is also an exchange challenge, which I've never done, so the deadlines are strict-- and there goes my laid-back approach to running a challenge.

I'm also wondering if anyone is interested in this kind of challenge? I know a lot of SGA writers are busy with [info]mcshep_match and Big Bang-- does anyone even have the time to sign up for another challenge?

Oz Rec: Salty Goodness by Illusionaltzu
This is why I decided to do the Shivs and Shanks Ficathon: for stories like Salty Goodness by [info]illusionaltzu. The prompt for the story was Donald Groves/Anybody - "Who the hell would have the balls to let Donald Groves anywhere near his cock?" The answer will surprise you, as will all the twists and turns of story line. The pace is fast, the characters are in fine form, especially Ryan O'Reily who manipulates the entire situation to his advantage, and the ending is hilarious. Since this story revolves around Donald Groves, you can expect some wickedly dark humor.

Those of you who don't read Oz, you're really missing out. Just so you know, Donald Groves ended up in Oz for eating his parents. Oh wait, he only ate his mother. He was saving his father for Thanksgiving.

    Celebrate Women
What a fabulous idea for a community! [info]celebrate_women:

Each year during May, we will host a month-long celebration of women. Please join us by reflecting on all aspects of our lives as women and honoring the women who have had a positive impact on your life. This community serves as a center-point for the celebration, which we hope you will promote and participate in through your own journals and communities. Prompts and other opportunities to participate will be posted to this community, as well as a newsletter to aggregate the results.

Look here to find out more

And don't miss these fabulous icons by [info]girlboheme! I wish I could snag all of them! I'm definitely snagging Amelia Earhart!

    First topic: Role Models.

Fanworks are welcome, so you can participate by writing about one of your favorite strong female characters. Teyla Emmagan, Dr. Gloria Nathan, Abby Sciuto, Sarah Jane Smith, Sarah Connor-- the list goes on and on.

    Whole Lotta Pimpin!
Today is the first day of the [info]mmom challenge! There are already bunches of delightful entries-- a couple in some small fandoms. This is such a fun challenge, give it a look!

[info]smallfandomfest is now taking prompts! This is a multi-fandom community that is geared to small, obscure fandoms-- the smaller the better. If you have a much loved but tiny fandom and would like to see more fic written in it, submit a few prompts. Read the rules carefully. Submit as many prompts as you want in as many small fandoms as you want. You do not have to write a prompt if you submit any. You have until May 21st to submit all your prompts. All ratings, pairings and genres welcome.

The Shivs and Shanks Ficathon still has plenty of prompts available for snagging. You have until May 25th to post your story.

BTW, I had no idea that "ficathon" usually only applied to exchange challenges. I had no idea. So apparently, I've been playing fast and loose with the term ficathon. Sorry if I caused any confusion, since I only host prompt style challenges. Ooops!

[info]icon_style has opened Challenge #10: Fancy Frames. The icon technique this week is borders:

For this challenge you must use a "fancy" frame in your icon(s). Me, I've downloaded all these fancy icon "brushes" and never used them, because I think of the border/frame last, and by that time there's no space for anything but a simple border. So this time, let's let those fancy borders loose! The fancy border can be one that you've made yourself, or one that someone else has made, it doesn't matter.

I'm probably forgetting a bunch of stuff, so if I am, don't hesitate to remind me...

    MMOM and Strachey Mysteries
[info]mmom starts on May 1st. It's one of my favorite challenge communities. I can't participate this year unless my Mojo comes back before the end of the month, but who knows? I might get inspired. I hope ya'll decide to write at least one story for the community. If you can't, please join and have fun! Multi-fandom community, welcomes both Het and Slash.

The [info]tim_don_a_thon is nearly over. If you haven't been keeping up, now is a good time to check out all the awesome stories, icons, wallpapers, vids for The Strachey Mysteries. A lot of hard work went into making this a success, and it's been a helluva lot of fun. Take a look and please leave comments for everyone who participated. There is a lot to enjoy over there.

    BURN NOTICE!!!
The Pilot episode of Burn Notice reruns tonight on the USA Network at 11:00. It'll run again at 2:30 a.m. You can also catch the Pilot on Sunday, April 20th at 10:00 a.m.

I know a bunch of you have been curious about this series. Even if you don't get into the pilot, hang in there. It took me a while to warm up to the show, but once I did-- WOW!!!

I'm really looking forward to the second season starting in July.

Master Lists and Kink/Cliche Challenge and OZ
The [info]sticksandsnark Master List is up! There are some fabulous Rodney/Teyla stories and gorgeous artwork. This is my favorite het pairing, so I love this challenge! As always, please leave comments for the hard working writers and artists.

This is the fourth year for the Kinks/Cliche Challenge! hosted by [info]svmadelyn. Has it been that long? The rules are easy and the challenge is very laid back. No one is going to bust your balls if you don't get your story in on time. This is a multi-fandom challenge, 1000 word minimum. Sign ups end April 20th, so don't put it off. At least take a look at [info]eliade's List of Kinks, Tropes and Cliches which is always fun. *g*

I'm shocked, absolutely shocked that there hasn't been more Beecher/Keller fans signing up for the Shivs and Shanks Ficathon at [info]oz_wishing_well. There are still a ton of prompts left, many of them B/K. There are also many rare pairings too. You can post your story any time until May 25th-- then grab another prompt. Two stories have already been posted!

Voting is still open at [info]icon_style for the Mirror, Mirror Challenge. This round was pretty tough, there are some amazing icons that fit the "embodiment of style" part or the challenge as well as being simply lovely. Take a look!

    Myriad of Pimp
    Word of the day: myriad.

    Oz

The Shivs and Shanks Ficathon is open for prompt submission. Give as many prompts as you want, any character or pairing. Slash, Het and Gen all welcome. Prompt submissions will be open until April 7th.

The The Little Oz Drabble Tree That Could is closed! 42 drabbles and ficlets were entered! [info]scissorknot turned in 12. I think we can call this a successful drabble tree.

    Icons

I haven't pimped this community before, but I wish I had because it has a damn cool concept. About [info]icon_style:

This icon-challenge community is about stretching our creativity by giving challenges based on some style or technique, without saying what the icons have to be about. Icons can be from any fandom, or non-fandom, or whatever. I just ask that they be "work safe" as far as the content goes.

This is not an intense challenge community; I know you have a life and want to do other things as well. So each challenge will be monthly, lasting for a fortnight.

The challenges have been very interesting with some fabulous results. The current challeng #9 is Mirror, Mirror. Take a look and see if you might want to participate in this low-key challenge comm.

    Insane Journal

Porn Battle #3 is accepting prompts. All fandoms and pairings-- including RPF, threesomes and moresomes. Check it out!

    MMOM Again!
It looks like [info]mmom is on again this year! This is one of my favorite challenges, even though I've never managed to complete it. I might be able to do a couple of stories, but 31? Probably not. Take a look and see if you might want to take the challenge. Even if you don't, you can always just do one or two stories.

BTW, if you want to read all the fic posted there, join the community. Some writers are choosing to flock their stories there, so you won't be able to read (and comment!) unless you are friended.

Okay, did I mention that [info]winter_deaddrop is having a Burn Notice Ficathon? They need prompts if this thing is going to work. So please, go over and submit prompts. This does not mean you have to write for the ficathon. Submit a prompt or two so participants have something to work with.

I must not be pimping Burn Notice enough, my flist doesn't seem to know about the show. USA will start re-running the first season starting April 17th with the Pilot Episode.

The Little Oz Drabble Tree That Could is still going strong! 29 drabbles and ficlets so far, many rare characters and pairings have been represented, as well as the most popular ones. We have a couple of newcomers participating, too. I'm really jazzed that so many writers are having fun with the Drabble Tree.

The first week of April, I'll call for prompt submission for the Oz Ficathon at [info]oz_wishing_well.

Burn Notice and Donald Strachey Mysteries
In celebration of Burn Notice coming out on DVD on June 17th, there will be a Burn Notice Ficathon over at [info]winter_deaddrop.

You have until March 31st to submit your prompts. It's fun, it's easy and it means more Burn Notice fic! We need it because there won't be any new episodes until the second season starts this summer.

There is also a [info]tim_don_a_thon for Don and Tim of the Donald Strachey Mysteries. There are a few participants so far, but they need more, so sign up here by March 31st. Posting dates are from April 14th - 30th. Both art and fiction is welcome.

Deadlines for sign ups are approaching, so don't put it off.

    Have fun!

    Oz Drabble Tree!!!
The Little Oz Drabble Tree That Could got of to a rocky start, but its now open! I had a hard time coming up with a starter ficlet, but Miguel finally inspired me. The Drabble Tree is hosted at [info]oz_wishing_well.

I'm so excited! I love the Oz drabble trees! :::bounces:::

    See You On Insane Journal!

Want to know more? Go here and here.

Honestly? I have my doubts that this will do any good. They picked a bad day for this, when a lot of people are going to be off doing other things anyway. And I'm not sure LJ will give a damn either.

But for me, I'm taking this as an opportunity to get more comfortable with Insane Journal. I'll be hanging out over there, and hopefully I'll see all my friends there too. Whatever content I generate over there, will stay there. I won't be linking it back to LJ on Saturday.

Oh, and I'll be mirroring [info]sentinel_epic over there. I haven't been doing much with that community, I know, but I'll make it available on Insane Journal if anyone wants to use it.

    See you on IJ!

    Oz Drabble Tree?
Anyone interested in doing another Oz Drabble Tree? I've been dying for some new Oz fic, and everyone seems to have fun with the Drabble Trees. Here are the first two Trees in case you missed them:

The First Ever Oz Drabble Tree and The Return of Oz Drabble Tree.

I can start a new one tomorrow and run it through Sunday, if there is enough interest. It will be hosted at [info]oz_wishing_well as usual.

BTW, maybe take a look at the latest challenges at [info]hardtime100 and see if they spark your interest. If not, more than half of the older challenges are tagged and in memories.

    Quick Update, More Later
Do you think [info]dustandroses is giving me a hint? Take a look at my profile page, I think she wants something-- maybe she wants me to write more porn. Which I am about to do, actually. I should stop outlining my latest story ideas to her-- it gives her hope that they might some day get written! *g*

    Thanks, sweetie! :::HUGS:::

I also want to mention that I spent all morning getting tests done. A CT scan and this cool test where I had to breathe into a couple of bags, one pink and one blue, to see if I have the bacteria in my stomach that causes ulcers. It will be a couple of days before the test results.

About Jo Ann-- she is going to Birmingham today for a bone marrow biopsy. This will tell her if she is in remission again and can go on with the next phase of treatment. Both a bone marrow transplant and some kind of stem cell treatment have been discussed, but we won't know what happens next until she gets the results. I have no idea what will happen if she is not in remission. More chemo? I honestly don't know how she could take it.

I apologize for not updating more frequently. I just hate that all I have is bad news or wait-and-see. There are a lot of fandom things going on, like [info]sgabigbang that I would love to pimp, but I just don't have the focus or energy. I have a lot of thoughts on the season finale of SGA, but again, no focus.

I'll update again when test results are in.

For now, all prayers, white light, well wishes for Jo Ann are welcome. I am not Christian, but I do believe wholeheartedly in the power of prayer. I've seen what it can do, and I really believe that prayer has kept Jo Ann strong throughout her fight with Leukemia.

I thank all of you for your care and support. You have no idea how much this means to me.

I've seen that Made My Day meme around, and there are two people who have definitely made mine: [info]neevebrody and [info]burntsm0re! Thank you so much for the gifts on my profile. They are just so cute! You have both cheered my up no end! :-)
